It is with great excitement that we prepare to move the Royal Victoria Hospital to its new location on the Glen Campus. It is no longer a matter of if we will move. The move is now a certainty. In October 2008, the Government of Quebec issued the Request for Proposals (RFP) to the two international consortia bidding to design, build, finance and maintain the MUHC’s new facilities at the Glen Campus. These new facilities will give our patients and their families a centre where high-tech meets human, and where confidence, hope, privacy and dignity are built in, including:
-
100% single patient rooms: a healing environment with an abundance of natural light, room for family members
to stay over, as well as better infection control.
-
Outpatient clinics in close proximity to minimize the distances patients must travel for appointments and tests.
In tandem with the MUHC’s work with the consortia, the City of Montreal is also moving forward with some of the infrastructure projects that are required to ensure the Glen Campus is accessible to traffic and supplied with the necessary utilities. Beginning in the spring and continuing through the summer and fall, roadwork will begin on the arteries around the Glen with the goal of creating a smooth and efficient flow of traffic to and from the site. At the same time, Hydro-Quebec will build a new substation to supply the campus, and CP will elevate and restore the adjacent rail overpass.
Both on paper and on the street, the Glen Campus is taking shape before our eyes. For more information and the latest news on the project, visit
